We stayed in The Granary for my birthday weekend. The staff are incredible. We had planned to attend WinterFest in Blowing Rock and to do the polar plunge. They canceled WinterFest because of winter. The staff at Mast Farm reached out to inquire if I wanted to reschedule. We decided to come stay anyway. The storm was mostly ice. Staff were very supportive and allowed us to check out late on check out day to allow for roads to be cleared. I also felt like they had our backs if conditions worsened. I cannot stress enough about how amazing the staff are.
The Granary is a beautiful cabin. My husband is a woodworker. The craftsmanship of this place is outstanding! The cabin sleeps 6 but be mindful that both bathrooms are in the bedrooms. If we had a 3rd couple with us someone would have to come into the bedrooms if they needed the bathroom in the middle of the night. Could be awkward. Lol Perfect sleep space for a family with kids though. The cabin is also dog friendly.
Thank you Mast Farm Inn for making my birthday weekend awesome. I highly recommend staying with them.

This was our second visit to The Mast Farm Inn. In October 2022, we had a wonderful and cozy stay in The Blacksmith Shop. We purposed to come back after Hurricane Helene to show support for the community. We’re so glad that we did! July weather is certainly warmer than October, but it sure beat what Atlanta was experiencing. We stayed in The Loom House and found it perfect for the two of us ( me and hubby). Unlike another review, we found the bed to be extremely comfortable. It’s not squishy soft, so if that’s your preference, you might want to inquire with management which accommodations might be more suited for you. Honestly, it was the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time. The a/c kept us very comfortable when the temps reached the 80s. The bedroom is upstairs and was not an issue at all (we’re youngsters in our early 70s). The only bathroom (with a shower) is slso upstairs. It was small but more than adequate. It seemed larger than the bathroom in The Blacksmith Shop. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch and reading. There was usually a delightful breeze blowing. The small “kitchenette” had a mini fridge (that was already cold when we arrived), a Keurig-type coffee maker, toaster oven, sink, a few utensils, and a couple of coffee mugs and glasses, and paper towels. Hubby claimed the sofa, and I claimed a comfy chair. The overall ambiance was wonderful. A word of warning: keep the door locked against curiosity seekers. One afternoon, we had settled in after a busy day and were in our “comfy clothes” and reading. The front door opened, and this sweet family poked their heads inside. I don’t know who was more surprised, us or them. There isn’t anything on the outside of The Loom House that indicates it is occupied, and I think folks assume it is perhaps a common area of the property. We can only hope they weren’t permanently traumatized. We enjoyed a couple of beers one afternoon at The Barnyard. It was delightful, and it appeared that the locals ( and their dogs) may enjoy it as well. We highly recommend The Mast Farm Inn and The Loom House!

We were in Gazebo cabin: a blend of cozy cabin and uncluttered elegance. Very clean, with all the essentials in the kitchenette and bath. The wide plank floors were warm, and the cast iron fireplace was where we hung out to read and knit and sip tea. Next time we’ll make it a point to check out the farmhouse.

My wife really enjoy getting away to Western North Carolina and the mountains each fall. We frequent Brevard, Highlands, and Boone. Decided on Banner Elk this year, and picked the Mast Farm Inn after reading about it.

It was a great choice, and one we will make again! Stayed in the Woodwork Shop and enjoyed the rustic, warm accommodations. The space was very peaceful and relaxing.

Decided to add the inclusive dining package. Best choice ever. While I made the choice so that we wouldn’t have to find a place to eat or decide what to eat, I was pleased to discover phenomenal food selections. I’m not a foodie by any stretch of the imagination, but the most refined diner would enjoy the offerings.

I recommend you add this to your places that you must stay. When you do, you will make the same decision we did. You will return again and look forward to doing so.

Absolutely obsessed with every part of this place. It is so quaint and charming. I love all of the effort and thought into keeping the original feel to house and other cabins while also adding some beautiful decor touches. I loved the claw foot bathtub, antique furniture, and everything in between. I could go on and on about how yummy and unique the food was. The chef really adds a special touch to each meal, making it something you’ve never experienced before and also something you’ll never forget. The place feels so homey and inviting. Everyone was very pleasant and checks in to ensure that you have everything you need! They even provided additional touches such as lotion, bath robes, bath salts that smell amazing, and tea cups with different flavored teas in your room . One of my favorite parts was the porch swing- a sweet place to sit enjoy a drink from the bar and take in the scenery all around. Make sure you look into other services that Mast Farm Inn offers to make your trip extra special, we had massages before we left, chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting for us in our room, and dinner reservations for such a special dining experience. The barn across the street is such a beautiful part of this place, it was not open during the time we went but was a pretty place to bring your own food and have a picnic. Again, I cannot say enough good about this gem of a place, HIGHLY recommended for a quiet romantic getaway.

The Inn was cozy and very comfortable. Everyone we interacted with was so kind, always willing to help with anything we needed. And Gus the lawn care person stopped to talk with us, he was so nice, made us feel like family. Great place to enjoy the Mountain View and just relax on the front porch.

We stayed at the Raspberry Hill cabin that is part of Mast Farm Inn’s neighbor property at the Heritage Hill cabins. It was a beautiful cabin and appeared to be recently renovated/updated. The decor was very nice, the beds were comfortable, kitchen well stocked with all you need. Coffee pot and Keurig. It easily slept our family of 5 with room to spare. Also loved that it had a nice size deck and a fire pit that we enjoyed two of the nights we were there. Boone is a great area for families and right across the street was the Barnyard where we went to see goats, two baby goats, horses and live music. Also down the street is the Mast general store, the original one and the annex, with a beautiful park, playground and river access for the kids to play. Would definitely stay here again!

Excellent experience! We LOVE Mast Farm Inn! We booked the Mary Mast Cabin. It was just lovely and spacious! The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were very well appointed and comfortable! We also enjoyed making some meals in the kitchen which had everything we needed. We also enjoyed having a glass of wine in the rocking chairs on the front porch watching the deer cross the fields in the early evening. We enjoyed our stay and will return! Thank you!

There aren’t enough words to describe how amazing this place is!! Cannot wait to go back!!

The original cabin was built in 1810 and is still used today (Ask to stay in the Loom House for this one). It’s the oldest cabin in North Carolina where people can still spend the night. Inside the farm house itself, it’s exactly what you would want a farm house inn to look like. I fell in love instantly. We stayed in Nell’s Room. The bed was so comfy and their bathroom amenities… use their products, they smell so good!

And the FOOD!! Y’all, it was better than any restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. My husband even voluntarily ate spinach 🤣 They worked around my food allergy without hesitation. Chef Cody is amazing!!

The barn on the property was turned into an outdoor family area where you can sit and enjoy the pretty country/mountain scenery with an on-site var service. They have board games or you can bring your own. Also, on the weekends they have live music. There’s even horses and goats for you to pet.

And, nighttime front porch sitting while watching the lightning bugs come out and the nearby neighbor shot off their leftover fireworks over the barn. It was beautiful 🥰

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway, this would be my recommendation. But, plan it in advance because they stay fully booked.

The whole vibe of Mast Farm is a relaxing escape coupled with home town hospitality and service. Everyone at the Inn was so warm and welcoming, it was the perfect escape. This was my first trip completely solo and I never once felt unsafe or on edge. The rooms are cozy, the bed was very comfy, and breakfast at their in house restaurant was to die for. The perfect start to a long hiking day or a exploring the nearby towns and attractions. I can’t wait to go back very soon.

For the past couple years we’ve stayed at the Granary cabin at the Mast Farm Inn right before Christmas. Our family absolutely loves it. It’s such a beautiful and peaceful area. The cabin is charming and so fun. Our three boys have fallen in love with the horses and goats. We don’t let them use technology during our stay but there are no complaints. The original Mast General store is within walking distance. We love to go there for snacks and goodies. My husband and I always love to enjoy a cocktail at the Mast Farm Inn bar. Everything is always festive and beautiful. It has become our family’s favorite Christmas tradition to stay at the Granary cabin. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The Mast Farm Inn is my favorite place in the NC Mountains. The Mast Farm Inn has become a home away from home for my family and me. We have been coming here for over 15 years and each trip lives up to the exceptional standards we have for it.

The cabins and main inn are beautiful and thoughtfully appointed. We enjoy the authenticity of how the rooms are decorated and the way the HISTORY of the inn is highlighted during your stay.

The innkeepers have always been welcoming and hospitable but Allisyn and Alan are exceptional. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and help us with restaurant recommendations and ideas on things to do while we were in Valle Crucis.

Try the Mast Farm Inn, you’ll be so glad you did!

We stayed at Mary Mast cabin and had a wonderful experience. The cabin was spacious, clean and gave us a view of deer playing everyday. The horses and goats were perfect for our granddaughter to be entertained by and the barn house with beer and wine was perfect for all our other family members. The food was fabulous and the staff were also fabulous.
For a relaxing beautiful country experience I recommend this place.

The best! Outstanding food and beauty and peacefulness. The bar, the restaurant and the outdoor music were the best…. We visited for a long weekend in October after the hurricane… the place was attended with pride and care and sensitivity..

My Son and his beautiful new wife, married this past weekend, it was a wonderful celebration! We arrived on Friday , we were welcomed by a great staff, the rooms are gorgeous and ready for us to get cozy and start the weekend! The staff was on point, it was like family! The food and service was fabulous, the breakfast was fantastic and we loved eating together in one room with family and friends! They were willing to help in any and every way! The bar and dinner was on point! We would highly recommend, a weekend away or a wedding destination , they will take care of you!

We attended my nieces wedding at Mast Farm. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. The rooms at the Inn we very comfortable and quiet. The wedding meal was excellent and the entire celebration from the welcome dinner, to the wedding and reception and then to breakfast before we left on Sunday was excellent.

We had the most wonderful weekend together as a family. The setting is absolutely stunning, and the food and service were exceptional. We enjoyed cocktails at the bar and a beautiful family dinner outdoors. The children loved running around and especially adored the horses. The location is incredibly convenient, and everything about our stay exceeded expectations. We cherished every moment and are already counting down the days until we can return.

The Mast Farm Inn holds such a special place in my heart after my recent stay this May. I took my mom for an overnight to celebrate her birthday and Mother’s Day and we enjoyed every moment of our stay. The Inn is incredibly charming and holds so much rich history. We stayed in the Joe Mast room, and it was impeccably clean, and the bedding and pillows were so cozy. Allisyn and Alan made us feel like family and left a lovely birthday card and treats in our room for my mom. Alan gave us a tour of the property and the experience of feeding the goats, donkey (Howie, our favorite), and the horses. We loved relaxing on the front porch, wondering the grounds and playing Scrabble in the common area. We also enjoyed the delicious homemade breakfast and hot coffee in the morning. I can’t wait to go back and bring my husband and kids so they can experience this beautiful place.

Mast Farm Inn hosted our wedding of 50 in early May, and where do I begin… The entire staff and experience was incredible from beginning to end. When rain became a certainty a few days ahead of time and I was struggling to figure out the ceremony space, Alan and Allisyn stepped in and helped out as if I was family. They scoured the property brainstorming, finding spaces to use for different parts of the wedding, and then prepping those areas and everything in sight until it was the perfect beautiful setting. For our reception dinner we chose a peppered steak filet. Not wise on my part for 50 people with varying, deep-set opinions on proper steak doneness… especially when I ordered every steak except my father’s to be cooked to the exact doneness that steak was meant to be eaten 😂. Despite this, almost everyone declared it to be the best wedding food they had ever had in their lives. The steak was so tender you could cut it with a fork. (Food was a top 3 priority; mission accomplished and hats off to Chef Dom.) Savannah was wonderful as well – steadfast and supportive through all of my indecisiveness due to finicky weather and my own perfectionist drive. Velva is the epitome of efficiency and a pure delight if you can ever catch her with a spare moment to chat. Martha is a sweet soul and one of the best breakfast cooks you might ever meet. Literally everyone here is warm, welcoming, and wonderful at what they do.

One reason we chose Mast for our wedding was because it’s not far from home and we thought it would be nice to come back to for our anniversaries. Instead, this has become a place we’ll be returning to as often as we can.

Absolutely wonderful family vacation spot! Mary Mast cabin was perfect for our family of five (three under 8yo) and two small dogs. All the modern conveniences you need without any stuffiness or pretension and was the best compromise between DIY vacation rentals and a traditional hotel. Clean, cozy and charming cabin, close to the horse pasture and Watauga River. Our kids absolutely loved the horses, goats, and donkey–what an amazing surprise! Allisyn, Allen, and their team were so welcoming, accommodating, and really just made us feel like family. The tavern breakfast and Easter brunch served excellently executed Southern classics, and the waitstaff was authentic and attentive. We will definitely be back and look forward to the Mast Farm Inn being our home base for many more NC mountain adventures.

My husband booked a “staycation” for us at the inn for our anniversary and while we live just a mile from the property, it felt like we were miles from home!

The Mast Farm Inn is just magical. There are so many little unique/original touches that made our stay cozy and romantic. Upon arrival, we were met with Savannah, as well as the couple who manages the property (Allison & Al). All three of them went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.

We stayed in the Loom House (a 200 yr old cabin!) and between the soaking tub, fire place, and comfy bed, I could have definitely stayed longer. In the evening, we visited the bar on the first floor of the main house and the ambiance was just beautiful (dark wood, velvet tufted seating, classy wall decor & touches). Martha was an excellent bartender and we could see how the staff are all passionate to provide a great guest experience.

For breakfast we enjoyed a delicious two-course meal and sweet Velva (our breakfast attendant) kept our coffee cups hot and full.

We are excited to return – if not for the night, then to just visit the bar/restaurant or take-part in the weekly game nights. We are also excited about the music events they’ll be offering this summer! So awesome to know this treasure to so close to home!

Wonderful place to stay. Allisyn and Alan are very attentive to their guest, they were great and accommodating to our needs. We stayed in the Raspberry cabin and we loved it. All the staff were friendly, pleasant and accommodating as well. Breakfast was great also. Howie the donkey and the goats were entertaining, a walk to the River was so peaceful. Mast Farm Inn will not disappoint!! We will go back again no doubt.

Mast Farm Inn was the warmest place we’ve ever had a vacation at. I spent half of my life living in Hawaii, and there’s a phrase used out there in the islands called “The Aloha Spirit”. Everyone at the Mast Farm embodies it.

The people running this place took us in and treated us like members of their own family. Our daughter had the time of her life hanging out with them and their farm animals.

The place itself is the best of North Carolina. When you imagine what the most scenic areas of this beautiful state look like, what you’re thinking of is the Mast Farm Inn. 🙂
Beautiful streams are just a short walk away, there are farm animals right outside the houses you stay in, and the accommodations themselves have all the rustic charm of pictures you find on postcards.

It goes without saying that we’ll be back. We’re already looking to plan a trip there this summer when my sister-in-law comes to visit from Europe.

We had an amazing long weekend at the Mast Farm Inn. It was an especially wonderful experience for my children, who loved getting to pet and feed the farm animals that live on site. The bedrooms were spacious, bright, and well-appointed and the kitchen had all the basics we needed. We also loved the homestyle food served at the Inn, but make sure to take note of the hours, as they’re not open all week long. The proprietors are so friendly and helpful. We can’t wait to return! (I would also recommend taking advantage of the River Birch Nordic Sauna that is adjacent to the property–very luxurious and relaxing!)

What a fantastic couple of days. Stayed in the Loom House, clean, comfortable and the perfect getaway for my wife and I. The staff is so attentive, and the work they are doing to upgrade the facilities to meet demands of the community are exciting. What an excellent place for a wedding, or just a getaway. We have been coming here for 15 years and it just keeps getting better. We can’t wait to get back. Thanks to Allen, Allisyn, managers, and owner Justin and Dad for a great stay!

We love it here; beautiful location, easy drivability, so much to do in the area. Velva is our favorite person to meet at the Inn. She gives a personal welcome feeling and so much history about the area from a local- it makes it even more special.

Great rustic charm. We stayed in the Woodwork Shop, an outbuilding converted into a cozy chalet. Our 9-year-old loved sleeping in the bed in the loft. Coffee in the morning by the gas-powered stove as snow fell outside. Went out in the snow to pet the horses in the pasture. In the evening, hot apple cider and wine in the main farmhouse by the fireplace, with an appetizer of homemade chili and cornbread before going down the road to dinner. Fantastic.

Kimberly G. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We stayed in the Woodworkers shop and outside was very rustic but once inside all our needs were met. Staff made a number of last minute accommodations and my birthday cake was fabulous. The chef is amazing as we got the package with 2 dinners and 2 breakfast included. It’s a beautiful area, nice little walking park on river near by and Mast General. Loved the goats and horses. My only feedback is the outside porches and chairs could use a wipe down.

Great trip to The Mast Farm Inn. I rented the Granary cabin and was very impressed with the cabin, service and attentiveness of the staff. The cabin was cozy and full of history, the grounds are beautiful and the woodstove is a nice touch. Alan, who works on the grounds, delivered an additional rocking chair for us and made sure there was firewood on the front porch on a chilly evening. Overall, really cool place. I’ll be back to stay a bit longer next time. Thanks Mast Farm!

The mast farm inn hosted a sorority formal for my school and the experience couldn’t have gone any smoother. The staff was so helpful and kind when it came to payments and asking if we needed any extra help! would definitely work with them again!

Lucky we are to find such lovely place with so nice people !
We enjoyed every minute staying in that place, starting with unique room , very clean and cozy, the feeling that you are a part of history!
It is like historic retreat surrounded by nature, mountains, river and animals!
My special recommendation is to try their house drink in bar and go to Nordic sauna )
Totally recommend! And we will come back !

We chose the Mast Farm inn because it recently became dog friendly. We stayed in a charming cabin and everything was clean, cozy and welcoming.
We enjoyed an evening drink at the barn and loved visiting the resident ponies, donkey and goats.
Morning strolls to the river with a coffee were idyllic.
100% recommend- there were even treats for our pug!

Cozy mountain cabin off the beaten path but close enough to attractions. Perfect getaway for a family or solo trip! Only recommendation would be a comfier mattress for the downstairs king bed. Cabin had lots of cute touches to keep it modern but still feel like you were in a mountain oasis.

Ours was just a one night stay but definitely would have stayed longer if travel plans allowed. There’s a great history here and the inn graciously reflects its past. The Miss Allie room was cozy and comfy. Everything we needed. Our hostess was accommodating and helpful. When back in the Banner Elk / Boone area, will stay here again.
