The Spindale Dairy Goat Festival & Parade
The Spindale Dairy Goat Festival & Parade • Spindale, North Carolina is home to the International Headquarters of The American Dairy Goat Association. The Spindale Dairy Goat Festival was Founded in 2009 in Spindale, North Carolina, as celebration of Dairy Goats and goats in general for the intelligent, friendly multi-purpose animals that they are, and to have some good old-time family fun. Our goals are to educate people about the many uses for goats and goat related products.
Did you know that more people in the world drink goat milk than cow’s milk? Did you know that this green agri-business is growing in Western North Carolina? Come and try some wonderful goat milk cheeses, fudge, gelato, ice cream and other delicious goat milk products. There’s plenty of Live Music, Live Outdoor Theater, FREE activities for the children and of course, cute goats in funny costumes! Watch for local mini-events year-round too.
The first ever Spindale Dairy Goat Festival brought over 5,000 people to Main Street Spindale, North Carolina on May 22, 2010. It was a one day event, and hosted 160 prize Dairy Goats competing for ribbons and trophies, in the first ADGA Sanctioned Dairy goat show to ever to take place in Spindale. Spindale has been the home to the International Headquarters of The American Dairy Goat Association since the mid 1960’s. Our festival falls on Armed Forces Day Weekend, every year, the 3rd weekend of every May
ADGA was established in 1904, and moved their offices here for the good weather in the 60’s. We are pleased that they are here in Spindale and appreciative of the good works that they do to support Dairy Goat Farming by maintaining standards of excellence and keeping track of records for over 13,000 members and their many MORE thousands of dairy goats. ADGA sanctions over 1200 Shows a year all over the USA.
Since 1904 the American Dairy Goat Association has been serving the dairy goat industry. With over one million animals registered since the Association was organized, we are the largest and fastest growing dairy goat organization and registry in the United States. The opportunities for ADGA youth are endless.
Our group hosts an ADGA Sanctioned Dairy Goat Show that is coordinated and directed by NC Cooperative Extension, with the help of R.S. Central High School Ag Classes. Our goal is to host one ADGA sanctioned show a year, here in Spindale.
In addition to providing GREAT milk, Goats are friendly, cute and very intelligent animals. They can be taught to do tricks, carry things and pull a cart. The time is now to start thinking about your Goat cart for the parade.
Prior to our first show in 2010, there had never been an ADGA Sanctioned Dairy Goat Show in Spindale or in Rutherford County, North Carolina. ADGA hosts one HUGE Show of their own each year. It is called ADGA Nationals and you can expect to see 1400 goats or more! Our Spindale show has featured 160 dairy goats and we expect this number to grow. Ours is both a celebration and a Festival.
