The award winning trio previously appeared as part of the Mast Farm Inn concert series to a sold out audience, in 2011 and are returning for another wonderful evening of music, complete with their latest award winning song “Death & Taxes” as well as to premier a brand new song written after their last experience visiting Valle Crucis. Bruce Coughlan wrote the song entitled “Valley of the Cross” or "Valle Crucis" after reading about the history of Valle Crucis and wanted to share his experience in song and gift it to the town.
Say Coughlan, “The first thing that struck me about Valle Crucis (besides how beautiful it is, and how friendly the folks are), was how rich the history is. The descendants from many of the pioneering families are still living in the valley.
It wasn’t until I started reading about the area and its history of settlement, that I realized how important the roll the church played in those early days, not only as a place of worship, but as the heart and backbone of the community. I was surprised that no matter which church, or which congregation, people pretty much put religious differences aside to reached out and help their neighbors through hardship. That’s the message at the heart of the song; "Those who stand the strongest, stand together". What I found astounding though, was how passionately divided these same people were when it came to civil allegiance in a war that pitted neighbor against neighbor and even brother against brother.”
Tiller’s Folly are the Pacific Northwest’s critically acclaimed, internationally traveled, ambassadors of song and at the forefront of a bold new movement in acoustic roots music. For the past sixteen years, through 1,000’s of performances stretching from the Pacific Northwest to the British Isles, they have spread their memorable blend of energy, history, musicality, romance and just plain fun from small and large halls to theatres and festivals.
Hailed by critics (“Tiller’s Folly is a national treasure”. – Peter North, Edmonton Journal), their words and melodies are at once populist, minimally produced and poignant while at the same time singularly powerful and sincere.
The band recently joined more than 70 exceptional self-released and independent label artists, as well as former major label acts lifted from a nominated list of more than 340 acts to win the coveted Top Song in the Social Cause category in the prestigious 11th annual Independent Music Awards (The IMAs) Vox Pop Poll, the influential awards program voted online by more than 60,000 music fans from around the globe. They won for their song “Death & Taxes”, which finds them paired with guest vocalists Josh Shilling (Mountain Heart) and legendary singer John Cowan (New Grass Revival, Doobie Brothers). The song is from their acclaimed 2012 self-released album, “Go The Road”.
“Go The Road”, an all-acoustic album, continues Tillers musical move in a refreshing new direction and promises to introduce them to new audiences in bluegrass, folk and Americana. The winning song (the albums first single), “Death and Taxes” is currently serviced to radio worldwide via AirplayDirect.com
