Johanna Kramer is a North Carolina-based freelance writer who specializes in writing about food and food-related events through her popular blog, Durhamfoodie.

Johanna’s Durhamfoodie blog features local food events, cookbook reviews, artisanal product reviews, and on-the-spot reporting through her Twitter feed. Her tweet-up’s, hosted with News & Observer food editor Andrea Weigl—a meet-up of food lovers sponsored by local eateries—sell out in minutes of being posted online. Most recently, Johanna was invited to put her taste buds to work as a judge of California artisanal beers at the Good Food Awards in San Francisco.

She is also very committed to the farm-to-fork movement, working closely with the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) promoting its annual farm tours through social media and public relations, most recently instructing farmers on how to use social media to promote their individual products thanks to a grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation.

Born in Montreal, Canada, Johanna spent her first two years living on a farm in Athelston, Quebec where her mom and dad had a large vegetable garden and made her baby food from scratch. The family moved back to Montreal and then to Toronto, where they lived in Bloor West Village, a culturally diverse community whose main street consisted of small family-run markets, butcher shops and bakeries. During high school, Johanna held a part-time job at the exclusive Boulevard Club, learning how to run a professional kitchen from a manager who Johanna still considers a mentor 15 years later. After a degree in Hospitality and Tourism from George Brown College in Toronto, Johanna moved to North Carolina and studied at the Central Carolina Community College’s Natural Chef Culinary Program.

Today, writer, blogger, and social media expert Johanna Kramer is happiest at home in her kitchen cooking for her family—and posting her menus online that make her Durhamfoodie followers wish they were invited for dinner.
