Marie Freeman and Leila Jackson met years ago, their friendship forged on the sidelines of collegiate football and basketball games, where they were inevitably the only women photographers covering the contests. They share a love of photography, sarcastic humor, pets of all forms, and the wilds of the Blue Ridge mountains.

Her work has been published in numerous state and national newspapers and magazines including the Washington Post, USA Today, the New York Times, Detroit Free Press and Our State magazine.A professional photojournalist since the 1980s, Marie has worked for The Watauga Democrat and the Mountain Times in Boone, NC, and currently has duties as a University Photographer at Appalachian State University. She has won several regional and national awards for photography (including 15 NC Press Association Photography Awards)

A professional photojournalist since the 1980s, Marie has worked for The Watauga Democrat and the Mountain Times in Boone, NC, and currently has duties as a University Photographer at Appalachian State University. She has won several regional and national awards for photography (including 15 NC Press Association Photography Awards), her subjects ranging from congressmen to monkeys to microscopic snowflakes. Her work has been published in numerous state and national newspapers and magazines including the Washington Post, USA Today, the New York Times, Detroit Free Press and Our State magazine.

 

From shooting sports she moved into concert photography, and has been hired by many regional and national acts to photograph shows. Her work has been utilized in newspapers, magazines, websites, and promotional materials for acts ranging from Tom Petty to Keith Urban.A graphic designer by education, Leila became involved in photography in the early 2000s in an attempt to capture the best possible images for athletics publications.She holds a Master's degree in Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology, and is an expert in photo editing and retouching.
