Eastern Music Festival • The Mast Farm Inn is honored to be one of the official sponsors of The Eastern Music Festival. EMF is a five week classical music festival and summer music conservatory for young artists. EMF’s summer study program is America’s finest orchestral and piano studies program. The Mast Farm Inn provides underwriting and support for the Young Artists Orchestras Concerto Competition featuring Eastern Music Festival young artists, with Gerard Schwarz, Eric Garcia and Grant Cooper, conductors. The two hundred young artists at EMF from June 27th to August 1st range in age between 14 to 23.
The Festival takes place this year between June 27th and August 1st, 2015 in Greensboro, North Carolina. And while based on the campus of Guilford College, events takes place in numerous venues in Greensboro. NORTH CAROLINA’S MUSICAL TREASURE, Eastern Music Festival is distinctive; set apart by accomplished faculty, exhilarating repertoire, brilliant students, world-renowned visiting artists and extensive community outreach.
This coming season, with Gerard Schwarz, music director, EMF celebrates its 54th year of bringing great music and great performances to North Carolina. Eastern Music Festival’s mission is to promote musical enrichment, excellence, professional collaboration, innovation and diversity through a nationally-recognized teaching program, music festival, concerts and other programs which will enhance the quality of life, health and vitality of our region. Eastern Music Festival is distinctive, set apart by our accomplished faculty, exhilarating repertoire, brilliant students, world-renowned visiting artists and extensive community outreach.
Approximately 60,000 visitors, from the Piedmont Triad area as well as both national and international visitors, travel to experience Eastern Music Festival. Eastern Music Festival presents educational, community-based events and many concert opportunities that augment the evening concert series. We invite you to participate in any or all of these events including; the inaugural Open House, afternoon student piano recitals and chamber recitals, the highly anticipated Percussion Ensemble and Pianopalooza programs, and master classes featuring engaging guest artists. Additionally, EMF offers a free concert on Founders Lawn at Guilford College. Gerard Schwarz • Internationally recognized for his moving performances, innovative programming and extensive catalogue of recordings, American conductor GERARD SCHWARZ serves as music director of Eastern Music Festival.
Gerard Schwarz also serves as music director of the All-Star Orchestra, an ensemble of top musicians from America’s leading orchestras featured in a new television series airing throughout the United States on public television. As in baseball, Schwarz has created an “all-star” team of top musical athletes for an eight episode series created to encourage a greater understanding and enjoyment of classical music. The series will also be released by Naxos as a DVD. Schwarz is also the Jack Benaroya Conductor Laureate of the Seattle Symphony. The conductor is a renowned interpreter of 19th century German, Austrian and Russian repertoire, in addition to his noted work with contemporary American composers. Artists & Faculty • "Our guest artists are among the most influential artists appearing before the public today. Stefan Jackiw, Lynn Harrell, André Watts, Anne Akiko Meyers, Awadagian Pratt will all join our wonderful Eastern Festival Orchestra for Saturday evening concerts. As in the past, we also have distinguished soloists playing with our student orchestras, including William Wolfram, Jeffrey Multer, Julian Schwarz, and George Sakakeeny. Of course, the concerts featuring the student concerto competition winners are always performances I look forward to at the end of the Festival every year." ~ Gerard Schwarz
This year, we’re holding master classes with notable teachers Ida Bieler, violin, Lynn Harrell, cello; Robert Vernon, viola, and Anne Akiko Meyers, violin; and a Q&A with André Watts. We’re also performing concerts throughout the community at High Point University and Appalachian State University. Of course, to our wonderful Triad audiences, we present the great masters of the 19th century including Tchaikovsky, Dvorák, Brahms and many others.
