The Chapel Hill-based company describes their sweet potato-based sauce as a dressing, dip, topping and marinade. As fiery as it is fun to say, this zesty concoction from a small cottage kitchen in Chapel Hill is now available in 22 states." ~ Chapel Hill Magazine & Weekly
In the year 2000 – in his family’s tiny cottage kitchen in Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Page Skelton set out on a mission to create an extraordinary spiced condiment that is made with naturally delicious sweet potatoes that "makes bland food taste better." And, well, that’s exactly what he did. He called it "Cackalacky." (Pronounced "kak-uh-lak-ee")
At first, Page only shared his signature Cackalacky™ recipe with his closest friends and family. But, as word started getting around about his unique flavor creation, he began getting retail order requests and wholesale inquiries…
So, with some good ol’-fashioned "can do" and LOTS of sweet potatoes, Page began brewing and bottling his Cackalacky™ recipe for even more folks to enjoy. Then, he took his zesty message on the road and traveled relentlessly around the countryside – giving away FREE samples and spreading his patented "Cackalacky cheer" everywhere that he went.
Throughout his travels, Page made lots of new friends and his sauce earned lots of nifty flavor awards and accolades along the way. Then, folks in the media also noticed what he was up to and started saying lots of really, really, nice things about his Cackalacky™ sauce, too.
Ultimately, with a LOT of help from his "zest friends" and family, Page’s sweet potato-fueled vision to live in a "bland-free world" has become a micro-movement of a sort and his original Cackalacky™ Spice Sauce recipe can be found in high-quality grocery stores in almost half of the United States – and points beyond!
